Using Shared Users report to identify Genre Overlap:
The Shared Users report can be used in a few ways to help enhance your market research and quickly identify genres with synergies and potential competition.
1. Cross-Genre Usage: See what genres other users are playing - identify potential genres that compete with your own to scope out competitive genres.
2. Cross-Genre Affinity: See what genres other users are more likely to play - a higher affinity means that users currently playing the selected genre are X-times more likely to play that specific genre vs the general population
Using the RPG genre as an example, we can see that more than 50% of RPG users also play games in the Simulation genre (64.5%) and Hypercasual genre (57.4%). This can be accounted for when considering mixing genres or monitoring for potential competes based on gameplay.

If we were to take a look at affinities, we may see a different story.

This is because affinity looks at usage vs the general population. For our example, users who play RPG games on mobile ore more than 2.5x more likely to play games in Strategy or Shooting categories VS users who do not play RPG. This information can be used to help position advertising for UA or scoping out potential partnership opportunities.
With the information from the Shared Users report, you can uncover opportunities within the mobile gaming market at a glance and have usage estimates and likelihoods to bolster your research!
